Download the proprietary driver rpms from Epson. I downloaded all the drivers including the 32 bit even though my system is 64 bit. Download the iscan networking plugin package and the scanner core package & data package rpms. Add them to your home rpm directory. Make sure the directory has been added to software repositories and refresh it. Then install drivers & iscan packages using YAST. After doing that go to YAST > Hardware > Printers. The printer drivers will be installed in /opt/epson-inkjet-printer-201308w/ppds/Epson/ make sure the ppd.gz driver is there for your printer. Turn on the printer. Go back to YAST > Hardware > Printers. In the printer main configuration window Yast won’t be able to find the printer even though it is hooked up by USB. In the printer configuration you will see one large pane that is telling you no printer detected it will not add the printer that way, I tried. I even browsed and selected the proper driver and it failed. However to the left is a small pane with five options the bottom option is Automatic Configuration. Choose Automatic Configuration and follow along watching openSuse do it’s thing. It then will have recognized the printer and configured it. Click on other and print a Test Page.
Configuring the scanner is a little stange. I had to start a scan using the printer control panel just to get the scanner utility to see the scanner while it scanned for the scanner. I the clicked edit and chose The Epson ES-610 Third party driver from Epson/Avasys required driver epkowa. It will then configure the scanner and list the driver as epkowa. The test utility doesn’t work with the scanner/printer. Go to the openSuse start menu Applications > Graphics > Scanning I used Image Scan for Linux to scan a test picture and it worked great. So now you can print and scan but you still can’t print a printable CD or DVD. Put the Epson Install CD in the DVD drive. Chose open with file manager. then navigate to /run/media/user (Your Home Folder)/XP-610/Common/Print CD/. There you will see setup.exe right click on it and open it with Wine. Let wine do it’s thing then navigate to Applications > Wine > Programs > Epson Software > Print CD. Enjoy printing your printable CDs or DVDs as the software works under Wine.
*NOTE: I assumed you already had installed sane. Also I used the XP-610 as an example. Replace the 610 with 710 or 810 in my instuction to whichever printer you have
