Hello,
I am new to this OS. The system would not boot up the desktop. It just stays there. However, we could access the web based jsp through the network. What could be causing this? Startx works ok.
Additional info: THis happened before. I did some research until i removed the routing setting in networks. After that it could boot up ok. However, nothing has changed in the network setting.

Welcome to the forums doubleout. First, is there any particular reason why you have installed on old openSUSE version which is no longer supported? Can you start up in failsafe mode?
Thanks for replying. It was installed in 2013. Our erp provider installed it. When I press ctrl-del-F1 it asks for the login information and then goes to the command prompt. I type startx and then it goes to the desktop.
I have not tried the fail safe mode.
Go to this link and download the latest version, burn it to DVD, then install it.
This reads like the default runlevel is set to 3 rather than 5.
You really should consider backing any valuable data up and installing a current version (for security if not support reasons).
Thanks for all your reply. It seems to be working now. The reason the server is not being upgraded is due to possible conflicts with My SQL and other programs used by the ERP. That is according to our erp service provider. They are testing the system in a new version and informed us the they will upgrade if everything is ok.
