openSuse 11.1 - did I install 64 bit or 32 bit?

I have a 64 bit processor (AMD X4 920) and I installed openSuse 11.1 two weeks ago, since then I have forgotten exactly what I did.

Can anyone tell me a sure fire way to check from the “running computer” or the “burnt installation DVD” what version I downloaded and installed i.e. 64 or 32 bit?

open a konsole or terminal on the running computer, and type: uname -a

Or if you’re using KDE you can use sysinfo to see which version you have installed.

open Konqueror and type sysinfo:/

It will be under OS

If you want to play it safe you can always install the 32 bit. I’ve used both and besides a few minor annoyances with using the 64 bit you can’t really tell that much difference between the two. Unless you have a huge amount of RAM then 64 bit for sure.

is the i386 the clue? does that mean 32 bit, what would it say if it was 64 bit?

Yes, that’s the 32-bit version of OpenSUSE. You can also look at the
/etc/SuSE-release file (just ‘cat’ it).
