OpenSolaris development has been closed down by Oracle, but it appears that it has been reborn as the Illumos Project.
While not the best news, this could be a solution to the worst case scenario if/when the Novell sale causes trouble for SUSE.

Interesting thread. I was going to write on the same topic.
Lot of Ex Sun engineers contributing there work separately. For example “Nexenta” ?
I think Nexenta is just the OpenSolaris Kernel with GNU userland, I don’t think it’s the same as OpenIndiana.
