I might have this thread moved to programming/scripting if there isn’t anything out there already…
I’ve been looking for a utility like this for a while, but have had no luck finding one…
MTG if you don’t know is “Magic The Gathering” a very old card game by wizards of the coast…
there are plenty of windows apps available for playing the card game online, but very few emulate well with wine or crossover office… so far I’ve tried magicworkstation (which runs very buggy and doesn’t let you play, it say’s “you must create a deck before you can do that” (or something like that), even when you get someone to create a deck file for you…)
I’ve also tried “apprentice” which runs! but I can’t figure out how to connect to other opponents, it might not be possible when emulated…
so, if there is nothing else out there, we have but one choice if us linux users want to play MTG online, make our own utility to do so that will communicate with the already in place MTG servers (for magicworkstation)
so quite simply I’m asking are there any programs like this for linux?
if no, please move this thread to programing/ scripting, where I ask the following;
is anybody who knows how willing to help make a program like this?
apparently over the years alot of other people were wondering why we couldn’t have an MTG online utility on linux :D. and to think it was right under my nose on sourceforge all this time!
INSTALL
----------
Copy all pics from magic workstation in pics folder
Magic Free Station uses some libraries for python, so to run it, you
must have this libraries.
* python-pysqlite2
* python-imaging
* python2.X X>=3
* python-gobject
* python-gtk2
* python-glade2
You can install it with the command:
sudo apt-get install python-pysqlite2
for example
Run freeMWS.py
Instead of apt-get it would be zypper in or use YaST and python-sqlite2
is the name not python-pysqlite2.

ok, “the following package was not found on the medium python-sqlite2”
so which one is working?.. lets just try 11.1…
“the following package was not found on the medium python-sqlite2”
all of them work, including 10.1, just it’s not compatible with me… let me confess, I’m stuck on 10.0, like really stuck, I don’t have enough room under /home/ to update to anything!, I mean it, no extra disk space on sda1! which is setup as /home/…
that and I can’t do an online update cause all the highspeed internet providers in my area refuse to give me the details I’d need to signon to thier services, they want me to use proprietary windows software…
so yeah I can’t update… is there any hope at all or should I just try to save all my files on some other drive and reformat with a copy of 11.1?, the only problem I find with that would be I’d have to set-up all the same programs I have set-up now… and that would be a J.O.B.
any advice as it seems I wont be able to set-up this program?
it’ not the hardware…, and I’m on dial-up over the normal phoneline, which around here are outdated…
anyways I can’t even get DSL that I know of…
but yeah even if I could get highspeed internet, I’ve got a major partition problem, (only 2GB total assigned to /home/) and I don’t know how to move around some of the 60 free GB I have under /usr/ without possibly erasing /home/ or /usr/…
thats my main problem, I’ve run out of room in /home/, so new programs/ installations can’t install…
yeah it not loosing the files I’m worried about… it’s the system’s settings, I mean I’ve got every thing I need properly installed right now, installing 11.1 would mean starting all over again…
I suppose I’ll get around to it, but in the mean time… I’m stuck not being able to install anything new or upto date.
on that note, what is ‘safe’ to clean out of /tmp ? other than the obvious picture files and stuff under tmp/home-user/
I see a ton of lockedfolders that say ‘YaST2-’ ETC
and I’ve got a fair amount of files that say ex; “Flash8IZO6n”
Hi
If you fire up YaST and then open the sysconfig editor and search on
tmp there are settings to delete the files in /tmp.
Are there many gz files in /var/log these could be removed as well as
they are old log files.
After you do that and remove the tmp files and see how much disk space
you have free… you can use the du command to see how much individual
directories are using as well.

Magic Collection Manager Download - Softpedia I too was looking for a Linux version MTG client. This one is excellent. It includes all of the current expansions. I hate to admit it but the only included card expansion I have heard of is nemesis. So I will be on the lookout for the older expansions, so I can atleast remember some of my logic while deck building. I had looked for the “Dojo” to no avail. Let me know if anyone has any questions. I will check back here every once and a while.
wow, gotta see if it’ll work here!.. hmm seems like it should work! havn’t run it, have to build it…
Ok how do I add things to my CLASSPATH ?
but yeah it seems adding of other older expansions or custom cards for that manner can be done individually by add them in the .mcc file under the ‘decks’ folder then of coarse adding an approriate .txt under the ‘gatherer’ folder for the expansion listing all the cards you entered in the .mcc.
I don’t know if you have to re-build it after that but that seems to be the way to go… rather than waiting…
