Old patches in emacs package

in the GNU Emacs package there are a bunch of patch files for outdated versions of emacs.
In the emacs.spec line 206 it states, that some of those patches are disabled.

Why are they still in the repository? Is it to build older versions? I thought you could check out previous revisions for that.

Just because the patch references an old version doesn’t indicate anything. If it’s still there, and the package still builds, it’s because whatever is being patched hasn’t ever been accepted upstream by the emacs maintainers.

Now whether openSUSE needs to be carrying downstream patches that aren’t accepted by the developers? That’s a much different question, and one that you would need to direct to the openSUSE emacs maintainers.

Read further past this line. Where patches are actually applied.

ah ok. I suppose the comment only references Patch2 if built without memmmap. Thank you
