NVIDIA GeForce 7000M issues

Hello all, I have a NVIDIA GeForce 7000M graphic card on me laptop, the only issue is that I’m not able to set the 1280 x 800 ( WXGA ) resolution on it. I’m new to OpenSuse and on Linux Mint I didn’t have this issue since the resolution was available.

The highest res. I can use is 1024x768 XGA

Thanks a lot!

  • marianogedisman,

install the proprietary NVidia drivers from either NVidia’s site or from the additional repositories in Yast. Then start
sax -r -m 0=nvdia
You should then be able to set the correct resolution.

Thanks. Well, I’ve set things like you said, the thing is… I only have sax2 on the menu, and the only graphic card that I see is the VESA Frambuffer Graphics. :expressionless:

Do you think this will work? :sarcastic:

NVIDIA - openSUSE

Hey man, I’ve already fix it, I got the point you were stating, thanks a lot!!

Hello, i also have acer aspire 4520, and i have been moving back and forth between opensuse, ubuntu and win xp (is it allowed to mention it here ? hehehe ), finally last month i tried opensuse 11.1 dvd as a bonus from a linux mag in indonesia, i recently bought the 11.1 repo dvd’s from local community.
It’s working quite well. Now the reason i’m posting here is this, i’ve downloaded the latest driver and setup the graphic card manually, via init, and so on. On booting i already got the nvidia logo. but in the sax11 setting my vga is still called as vesa framebuffer.
My question is, does it means everything is already OK ?? i had tried some 3d games like warhammer that’s on repo, it runs well. but there are times when the display just went black, like after i tried to configure desktop on the background.
Do i need to config anything again ?
I’m a bit of a xp geek before, i had little experiences tweaking things on my own, but it’s still find it quite challenging to know is my system is in prime in linux.

Yes. If you see the NVidia logo when the X server starts, you’re fine.
Sax2 may show the Vesa driver if you launch it without the option to use the NVidia driver (sax2 -r -m 0=nvidia), but as long as you don’t save upon exiting sax2, it’s okay.

It may have to do with desktop effects being enabled, but please investigate further and start a new thread if necessary.

Thank you!
Uwe

yessss !!! it’s now using the right driver, the card was read, no more vesa, and the grayed out 3d acceleration below is now can be changed.

it meant a lot to me, thanks buckesfeld, now i know what step i missed, hehehe…

  • oraclecow,

init 3
There’s a blank between “init” and “3”
