Nvidia fortran taking 69 gb of root

I installed nvidia fortran compiler from their repo. I wanted to try using gpu cuda compilation and running for assessment even though my computer is way on the low side in capabilities. I noticed that nvidia compiler was installed in /opt and occupied 69.5 gb of disk space. I did have 150 gb for all of “/”. My “/” is sending low space messages solely due to nvidia fortran.

Any way to move this to “user” space that someone might know of. /home has plenty of space.

My install was done through zypper per their instructions on their website.

Installation Instructions

sudo zypper addrepo https://developer.download.nvidia.com/hpc-sdk/sles/nvhpc.repo
sudo zypper install -y nvhpc-26-9

Thanks for any advice. tom kosvic

I think I found a solution. There is an option to download just a tar file; not through zypper. I think I can configure that to load that in /home rather than root but haven’t tried yet.

thanks, tom kosvic

It is documented in the installation instructions that you can specify the installation directory when using the tar file.

I have nvidia fortran installed in /home. I am working on setting up the env si I can access nvfortran from antwhere.

I’m glad I had space in root for their suggested openSUSE install. For someone with less free space trying to install 69 gb might have locked up their computer.

Env variables are set in .bashrc. I can call “user” nvfortran from anywhere w/o using full path to file.
