NVIDIA drivers completely broken after last update

Hello folks. I did an update yesterday and now my graphics driver doesn’t seem to like doing anything using opengl. It still functions in that I have a working desktop but I can’t play any 3D games such as ET:Legacy. Did anyone else have this issue with the latest update? How would I roll an update back to the previous package?

Thanks!

Please provide some usefull information:

  • dmesg output
  • journalctl output
  • terminal output when startet from console
  • which driver version?
  • inxi -Ga

Same problem here with my Intel NUC5.

**Graphics: Device-1:** Intel HD Graphics 6000 **driver:** i915 **v:** kernel **bus-ID:** 00:02.0
           **Display:** x11 **server:** X.Org 1.20.3 **driver:****loaded:** intel **unloaded:** fbdev,modesetting,vesa **resolution:** 2560x1440~60Hz
           **OpenGL:****renderer:** llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.1 256 bits) **v:** 4.5 Mesa 21.2.4 **direct render:** Yes

Having the same problem:

5.14.21-150400.24.18-default
openSUSE Leap 15.4

After updating last week, this secondary vider card failed to run:

NVIDIA G98 [Quadro NVS 450]

Initially it displayed a black background and would allow a mouse pointer, but after logging in (Gnome Classic, not Wayland) it was not a valid display.

Blacklisted noveau and located the compatible driver from Nvidia:

NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-340.108.run

BUT compile fails:

/tmp/selfgz11750/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-340.108/kernel/nv-linux.h:122:10: fatal error: asm/kmap_types.h: No such file or directory

Tried the 390 driver, but it does not support the Quadro 450.

Is there a way to get this card working?

TIA!

Hi
Have a look around the Nvidia forums for patches of the 340.108 driver to work with that kernel. You can then create a ‘patched’ run file to try installing, instructions should be found on the nvidia forum, but if/when find patches, post back here.

Found a patch script here:

https://www.if-not-true-then-false.c…vidia-patcher/

The patch ran successfully, … as did the installation script, …

On restart, nothing different; last lines in the nvidia log are:

-> Installing both new and classic TLS OpenGL libraries.
-> Installing both new and classic TLS 32bit OpenGL libraries.

Only change in modprobe.d is a new version of nvidia.conf with blacklist noveau.

Hi
Can you run the command mkinitrd to ensure nouveau is blacklisted, also can you show the output from;

/sbin/lspci -nnk | egrep -A3 "VGA|Display|3D"

mkinitrd, no change;

You need 340 driver = G03.
Packages from community user: https://software.opensuse.org/search?baseproject=ALL&q=g03
Add repo. Uninstall Nvidia drivers, uninstall nouveau drivers, reboot, install G03 drivers from command prompt.

Card is too slow, not for gaming, VGA output is bad. Consider for upgrade.

Similar problem with me and the following system:

Upgrading the kernel form 5.14.21-150400.24.18-default (64-bit) to 5.14.21-150400.24.21-default (64-bit). After reboot the system did not run any more and ended with a screen of “kernel panic”. I had to use previous kernel at the boot screen. The command inxi -SGaz --vs produced the following output

I uninstalled Nvidia driver hoping this will solve the problem. How wrong was I. The reboot with .24-21 kernel ended again with kernel panic. I also tried with the latest Nvidia driver 515.65 with the same result. I have to boot with .24-18 kernel meaning that there is an issue with the latest kernel and not with Nvidia driver.

Am I right.

Create bug report. Nvidia drivers from repo had some troubles previously.
Where is Intel graphics?

Given that a NVIDIA Corporation G98 [Quadro NVS 450] is apparently too old to have much chance of getting a driver running on a 5.14+ kernel, can anyone recommend a more current card? Nothing fancy, just four additional monitors for normal desktop work?

TIA!!

Hi
Depends, I have a Quadro RTX T400 (~US$160), it drives three 1080P screens but can run 5 (with DP splitters) at 4K. I had a Yeston AMD RX550 Lexa chipset (~US$190) with 4 HDMI ports which may be more up your alley? I’m looking at adding a T1000 if/when prices come down…
