nvidia driver not working on fresh 42.1 install

Hello,

I have recently installed openSUSE Leap 42.1 on my Lenovo T530 laptop. In order to use the laptop’s NVS5400 (Geforce 400 equivalent) graphics card, the drivers need to be installed. Without the drivers, it defaults to the Intel integrated graphics. I installed the drivers by using the following commands:

sudo zypper addrepo -f http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/leap/42.1 nvidia
sudo zypper inr

I restarted, it still used Intel graphics, not nvidia.

I found that the driver installed a settings gui. I opened it and a message was displayed, saying I need to configure the xorg.config file by running nvidia-xconfig. I did this and an error was displayed that the xorg-server package was not found. I installed this, ran nvidia-xconfig again, and rebooted. The x server did not start. It will start if I delete the xorg.config file, but nvidia graphics is not configured.

The nvidia driver version is 367. Does anyone have any advice?

The Repo is only for PC´s with one Graphic Card, a Nvidia one.

You need bumblebee, so maybe search for that and disable the Nvidia Repo and delete the Packages installed from that Repo.

If you installed the normal NVIDIA driver (seems you did) remove before installing the bumblebee version!!!

According to the manual http://www.lenovo.com/shop/americas/content/user_guides/t530_w530_ug_en.pdf you should be able to switch between the cards. It’s in chapter 8, page 116 table 6.
