And nvidia-smi says its driver mistmarch: Failed to initialize NVML: Driver/library version mismatch NVML library version: 595.80
And its actually correct, cuz open-driver is in version 610 in repo-oss, while its 595 in nvidia repo.
At this point I already know that rebooting the system will end up in having 720p resolution and switching to “llvm pipe”.
It’s not the first time, not the second, but just nth time it happens to me, and at least all I have to do as a dummy is just wait some days/weeks for another update that will probably fix the issue.
But it’s also very annoying I can’t update any programs just because of this “mismatch”. And it lasted for a month 1 time, I could not update OS for entire month before it was fixed.
My question is, can I do anything to prevent it? And why it happens, if it’s not even my fault why it happens so often, is it like unpreventable? Now let’s say I have a very annoying bug in some idk kde package, and because of this mismatch I cannot update to newer patch to fix it, I have to wait for a month to fix it. It’s kinda destroying user experience and I know nvidia on linux is a bad couple but it’s not even about nvidia, but about messy configuration. Why it’s so hard to fix can anyone tell me?
Okay, looks like I have not added CUDA repositrory and I use GFX one. I did not even know there are different repos for this. I will try do that and tell you guys if it works. Thanks
And you say I won’t be getting mismatch errors now? And btw, it was needed to uninstall steam in order to install 610 drivers, and I can’t install it back as it requires 595. Is it expected?
For some reason Steam depends on 595 32bit drivers and I cannot install steam now
Problem: 1: the to be installed steam-1.0.0.85-3.1.x86_64 requires '(nvidia-video-G07-32bit if nvidia-video-G07)', but this requirement cannot be provided
not installable providers: nvidia-video-G07-32bit-595.45.04-4.1.x86_64[NVIDIA:repo-non-free]
nvidia-video-G07-32bit-595.58.03-10.1.x86_64[NVIDIA:repo-non-free]
nvidia-video-G07-32bit-595.58.03-11.1.x86_64[NVIDIA:repo-non-free]
nvidia-video-G07-32bit-595.58.03-5.1.x86_64[NVIDIA:repo-non-free]

nvidia-video-G07-32bit-595.71.05-6.1.x86_64[NVIDIA:repo-non-free]
nvidia-video-G07-32bit-595.80-7.1.x86_64[NVIDIA:repo-non-free]
Solution 1: Following actions will be done:
deinstallation of nvidia-video-G07-610.43.02-1.x86_64
deinstallation of nvidia-compute-G07-610.43.02-1.x86_64
deinstallation of nvidia-compute-utils-G07-610.43.02-1.x86_64
deinstallation of nvidia-gl-G07-610.43.02-1.x86_64
Solution 2: do not install steam-1.0.0.85-3.1.x86_64
Solution 3: break steam-1.0.0.85-3.1.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies
I did not manage to get steam to work, but I just installed flatpak version of steam and it runs without issues. Anyway adding CUDA repo and installing proper driver was required to solve the drivers issue, so thank you one more time.
