Not able to activate or remove printer Leap 16.0

I had an old Brother DCP-J4120DW printer installed as a networked printer on Leap 15.6.

I just updated to 16.0. Since there (for some reason) was no update option, I went for a fresh install but kept my /home.
I also wanted to keep user credentials and ownership’s, but that was neither available at installation stage.
Then I reinstalled the Brother printer and scanner drivers.
There were though some directories that the installation file was not able to create.

I can now “see” the printer listed in the user settings but the printer is paused with the error

could not create directory /root/BRF.

I cannot reach the printer via CUPS - the root password (which I never entered during installation) are not accepted. I set myself as administrator (and root I thought)

Maybe it is not part of the printer problem, but it seems that some ownerships and write permissions to system files have been screwed up during my installation, since the installation is now a blend of an old customized /home directory and a fresh installation.

How do I get closer to administrate and eventually remove the printer?
Thanks!

Please have a look at this recent similar topic regarding root user credentials:

Thank You this helped me. The printer is now installed and working. I as not aware setting a root password during installation. I misunderstood the role of the suggested administrator role.
