No wireless

Read through the stickie, did what it told me to do, this is the information I got.

No wireless LAN in hardware information
UDI: /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/pci_8086_2939
No firmware in system log, did look for it using terminal
Scan for APs resulted in “interface does not support scanning”

Help would be appreciated. I am thoroughly a noob.

Please post lots more info:

When it’s done you might want to reboot.

It says it cannot access the installation media.

This is the error message:

Download (curl) error for ‘http://packman.mirrors.skynet.be/pub/packman/suse/11.2/repodata/repomd.xml’:
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Couldn’t resolve host ‘packman.mirrors.skynet.be’

Don’t you have an ethernet connection to use?

Post result of this

uname -a

I’m pretty sure I don’t.

By ethernet, I mean a cable connection to your RJ45 port

Linux Linux-8eu9 2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT 2009-10-26 15:49:03 +0100 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

So I’m assuming you can’t connect this Dell to a Hardwire connection - Correct?

If so:

OK
Download these 2 files
http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/11.2/x86_64/broadcom-wl-5.60.48.36-7.pm.13.3.x86_64.rpm

Install them manually from a terminal

rpm -ivh packagename.rpm --force
(I think you will need to use the force option or it will spit dummy)

openSUSE software installation hints - openSUSE Forums

how do you find the port

Don’t understand this question
The RJ45 port - is that what you mean? It’s where the internet cable plugs in to the computer

BTW
I have to crash/sleep
now

Be back AM

OK, I’ve installed those, what now?
No, i don’t have anything in the port.

Caf means, that you connect a network cable to it. How can you download if you have neither wired, not wireless connection to the internet.?

After install of the packages you should reboot, the driver/firmware will be used automagically (linux, you know), and you should be able to use the wireless.

I downloaded it on this machine, USBd it across, single click intall.

Seems to have worked, I can now select the wireless option on the KDE control module. What do now?

You just configure a New Connection, enter the info required to connect to your access point, which may include a encryption key / password.
