No sound on Acer Aspire 5920G

I have no sound on an Acer ASpire 5920G, Intel(R) Core™2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz, System: openSUSE 11.0 (i586) KDE: 3.5.9 “release 49.1”

i also found those information in KInfoCenter-Sound:

Sound Driver: 3.8.1a-980706 (ALSA v1.0.16rc2 emulation code)
Kernel: Linux linux-th1r2.6.25.5-1.1-pae#1 SMP 2008-06-07 01:55:22+0200 i686
Config options: 0

Installed drivers:
Type 10: ALSA emulation

Card config:
HDA Intel at 0xf0600000 irq22
HDA ATI HDMI at 0xf0210000 irq 17

Audio devices:
0: ALC883 Analog (DUPLEX)

Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Midi devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG

Timers:
31: system timer

Mixers:
0: Realtek ALC888
1: ATI ATI R6xx HDMI

I don’t know if all these are needed…if u need any other information just tell me where to find it(lol) so i can post it!! I hope we can find a solution!

What is the mixer being used and the multimedia program being run.
are you using banshee, kaffeine,or amarok, and are you using kmix or something else. this will identify some of the problem. post what is being used and someone will be able to help…

Hmmm … its not clear to me if your Acer Aspire 5920G has an ALC883 or 888.

Reference the information to provide, we have a stickie in our multimedia section that notes what is useful to provide: Welcome to multimedia sub-area - openSUSE Forums

I note the openSUSE HCL has sound working with openSUSE-11.1 with the Acer 5920 (where 11.1 has a newer 1.0.17/1.0.18 version of alsa): HCL/Laptops/Acer - openSUSE

There is an audio troubleshooting guide for openSUSE:
SDB:AudioTroubleshooting - openSUSE

If after following the guide you can not get your sound to work, then if you provide the output of running the script with your PC connected to the internet:

wget -O alsa-info.sh http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-info.sh && bash alsa-info.sh

and post here the output URL (just the URL)

… and also provide the output of:

rpm -qa | grep alsa
rpm -qa | grep pulse
rpm -q libasound2
uname -a
cat /etc/modprobe.d/sound

and I’ll try to make a recommendation.

that guide was really helpful!!! thanks a lot! I fixed it!!

Great!! Well done! Glad to read it is now fixed.
