No proper styling in KDE

Unable to change style in KDE in a proper way. What I am getiing instead of selected style in Ssystem settings/application appearance/style is sometimes is a mix of different styles. Right now when I am changing widget style I am getting Adwaita style.

Sometimes it looks like this:

openSUSE 13.2.

Have no clue what you want?? It looks like you are using the KDE3 settings program…KED 4 Desktop settings layout is different. It is probably not the best idea to use KDE 3 to change settings in KDE4.

That depends also on the colour you have chosen.

I am not using KDE 3. The problem is that when I am selectin, as example, Oxygen style I am not getting this Oxygen styling in all programs. Okular have Adwaita theme, Dolpin partly have Adwaita styling & partly Oxygen. Whne I hover mouse over places in Dolphin they become to look like in Adwaita theme.

No, but your screenshot looks like you are using KDE3’s kcontrol.
This has no effect on KDE4, you should KDE4’s systemsettings (“Configure Desktop”) instead.

OTOH, KDE4’s systemsettings does have the option to use a treeview like kcontrol (and you seem to be using that), but it’s not the default. Maybe that’s where the confusion came from.

Make sure you haven’t set the GTK+ style in “Application Appearance”->“Style”. (apparently you haven’t though, according to your screenshot)
And try to remove the file ~/.config/Trolltech.conf. If that has wrong settings, it might override KDE4’s style.

And take a look at this picture:
http://s21.postimg.org/dsgs23mg3/how_kcall_should_no_looks_like1.jpg](http://postimg.org/image/dsgs23mg3/)
I have choosed Clearlooks style but KCalc on the right side has Adwaita style. Currently selected style does not apply completly or at all to a newly launched programs.

Yes and that is the KDE3 setting window NOT the KDE4 I suspect you installed some old KDE 3 program and it dragged in a good portion of KDE3

In the menu do not select the item Personal setting(configure Desktop) that is the KDE3 settings code use the Configure desktop option to get to the actual KDE4 settings screen It looks a lot different

Deleting ~/.config/Trolltech.conf solved problem. But after this Oxygen style disappeared from style settings conf. dialog.

Hm. Is kdebase4-workspace-liboxygenstyle installed? Try to reinstall it:

sudo zypper in -f kdebase4-workspace-liboxygenstyle

Also try removing all caches in /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER/.

And try running “kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental”.

Neither of this helped to get back Oxygen style.

Are you running systemsettings or systemsettings5? Your screenshot looks like systemsettings5.
The latter is Plasma5’s configuration, you’d need to install oxygen5-style to see the Oxygen style in there.
But that only makes sense if you use Plasma5 or KF5 applications.

Try to run “systemsettings” in a Konsole, do you see the Oxygen style there?

Maybe you were mixing KDE4 and KF5 applications right from the start? Would explain why they used a different style.
I do see the breeze style in one of your screenshots as well.

And do you see the problem with a fresh user account too?

LOL well he is running KDE 3 stuff so why not add some plasma 5 also. I mean what could go wrong :open_mouth:

Well, I’m not so sure he is running KDE3 stuff.
He explicitely wrote he is not running KDE3, and I don’t see any KDE3 stuff on his screenshots.

As I already said, systemsettings (both the KDE4 and the Plasma5 version) has a “tree view” that looks similar to KDE3’s kcontrol.
And this is what he is using on the screenshots, not KDE3’s kcontrol.
But from the screenshots it’s impossible to tell whether it’s KDE4’s systemsettings or Plasma5’s.

As a side-note: It’s perfectly fine to run KDE3 applications in KDE4 or Plasma5, just as well as running KDE4 apps in Plasma5 and KF5 apps in KDE4.
Just don’t expect them to use the same style settings…

The first shot is a Personal Settings screen that is defiantly from KDE3 I had it drug in here when I installed something I was testing from the KDE3 repo It does not come standard in KDE4

Look close notice the nav bar on the left that is NOT in KDE4 that is KDE3

It shows up here as Person Settings (Configure Desktop) in the menu I also have the normal KDE4 Configure desktop

No, it isn’t.
It’s KDE4’s or Plasma5’s systemsettings with the tree view, as I already wrote twice.

Look close notice the nav bar on the left that is NOT in KDE4 that is KDE3

It is in KDE4 too. It’s just not enabled by default.

And KDE3’s kcontrol (“Personal Settings”) does not have those “Configure”, “Help”, and “Quit” buttons at the top.

It shows up here as Person Settings (Configure Desktop) in the menu I also have the normal KDE4 Configure desktop

So what?
I have 3 of them… (KDE3, KDE4, and Plasma5)

But if you have those two, you can easily compare them and notice that the one on the screenshot is not KDE3’s “Personal Settings”.
