No internet connection after fresh install - 13.1

I’m writing this on my laptop. I’ve just installed 64 bit version onto my desktop computer, from Linux Format magazine DVD. Instal went fine, but when I rebooted and tried to go to OpenSUSE website, Firefox told me it couldn’t find the website. Turns out that the internet hasn’t been set up. I’ve migrated from 12.1 (I think it was) which I’ve used for two or three years. 13.1 was a new instal: I haven’t tried to upgrade the previous version. I’ve tried to find a way to set up the internet through YAST, but can’t work out how to do it. How do I set it up? It seems strange: every distro I’ve played with does this automatically.
My desktop is connected to a Linksys BEFSR41 router, which is connected to a cable modem.
Thank you.

Further to my previous post: the network manager is now telling me that the cable is unplugged. I have checked the cable, and replaced it, and it is fine. The little light flashes at the rear of the computer, where the cable is plugged in, but the 100 light on the router is not going, as it should do, and used to do, under my previous installation.

The absence of the light indicates you do not have a link. If you are certain
that the cable is OK, then either your NIC or the port in the router is bad. If
possible, try a different port. In my experience, the probability of cable
failure is much higher than for either NIC or port failure.

Thank you for your help. I’ve tried a new port on the router, with no success. I’ve also shut down the computer and restarted - no luck. I’ve just run the live version, and it does everything fine, so I’ve reinstalled it from inside the live edition, but the problem is the same as last time.

The network manager shows that networking is not enabled, so I ticked the link entitled Enable Networking, but nothing has happened. Clicking on Manage Connections, leads me to a screen entitled Configure - KDE Control Module, in which the Wired tab is selected. There is no information in that box.

I did notice, during the installation process, that it was configuring the network.

Network works in the live, but not in the installed system? All hardware
the same? Without even moving the machine?

Strange.

I know that the Live system uses NetworkManager. Is that true for the installed
version? If not, then use YaST to change to NM.
