No connections with a wifi dongle

Hi, I run KDE Plasma on Tumbleweed. I have a problem with a wifi dongle: if I go to Yast -> Network settings I set the address via DHCP, but if I go to the “Wireless” tab and then I click on “Choose the net” I got “RTNETLINK answers: Operation not permitted”. This is the same from terminal:

/usr/sbin/ip link set wlp0s18f2u6 up
RTNETLINK answers: Operation not permitted

So it seems it doesn’t find any net, and this is the same via NetworkManager. I tried to toggle wifi on and off, and the airplane mode too from the tray bar widget, but it didn’t help.

Some more information:

To me the problem seems to be:

state change: unmanaged -> unavailable (reason ‘managed’, sys-iface-state: ‘external’)

Question is who.what is already managing the interface.

You can also delete the rtl8188eu packages and install from git:

because:

{USB_DEVICE_AND_INTERFACE_INFO(USB_VENDER_ID_REALTEK, 0xF179, 0xff, 0xff, 0xff), .driver_info = RTL8188F}, /* 8188FU 1*1 */

See:

Thank you both! But now I have another question: since I’m not skilled with compilation, and it doesn’t seem the installation instructions in that page are suitable for opensuse too, how should I do to get the driver installed?

I have updated the rtl8188eu today, maybe you can use the new kmp before you would compile another driver?

Now “rtl8188eu-kmp-default” version is “git20211010_k5.14.11_2-2.6”, but still no connections are showed:

Should I try to compile the driver by myself? If so, how should I do?

Now “rtl8188eu-kmp-default” version is “git20211010_k5.14.11_2-2.6”

Should be this one:

Post:

zypper lr -d

Thank you, now the packages should be ok, but still no connection.

I buidl only the drivers into a rpm, so I can not say, if they are working.

Maybe try the one from the git Repo.

Yes, I can imagine, thank you! I’d like to build those from git but I don’t know how to proceed…
