Glad to be here, and ecstatic that I made it through the install, alongside 4 other distro partitions without wrecking them, and an intact Grub. ![]()
My ‘play’ laptop here is an anemic HP A-6 with onboard Radeon. Upgraded RAM (16) and SSD drive. It runs XFCE very well and I enjoy that desktop. Nothing flashy for my OpenSuse plans. For 20 years I’ve enjoyed Linux, but to be honest, never tried OpenSuse. I chose Tumbleweed because I’ve enjoyed rolling releases before, and it seemed like there was discussion that Leap was going away.
I managed to get through the VS Code install, with a very helpful forum post I found. Right after, I setup my Conky, which I’ve been tweaking for 15 years. It’s always one of the first things I configure. Vivaldi replaces Firefox; I like Kitty with Fast Fetch; and the ever present xkill button if I need it. Yeah, CL kill works, but xkill has always been there … a comfort thing.
Got a long way to go with CL commands for Zypper, but still abit confused with the GUI installers … seems to be a few. The only one, Myrlyn, showed I had 35 updates to do. Until I find some cheat sheets for Zypper, Myrlyn will be my go to. I’ve got a bunch more software to find and Myrlyn seems to be the notification I need of updates.
Apologies for rambling (and hoping this post is in the right place), but looking forward to learning something new, as I’m bored of the Mint(s) and Ubuntu(s).
Thanks for having me
