I just upgraded to TW 20241024 and for the first time in years(?) a new background was displayed on the desktop … not ugly just too used to the old one perhaps ![]()
I quite like it
Yes, it is nice. Just too bright for my taste.
That has an odd similarity to the default background for the new Leap 16 pre-Alpha release, but different base colors (not a full screenshot):
Well, that is really bright !
Yea, too bright for me!! My guess - the same graphics person created both.
I immediately switched it out for a color background (dull, boring medium grey).
Same artist. That’s a good guess.
I too switched immediately to some boring dark blue homogenoeus background. Easier on my eyes.
Yea, very bright. Go to /usr/share/wallpapers/openSUSEdefault/contents/images and choose default-dark.png. You’ll like it much more.
Haven’t you noticed the changed Tumbleweed logo yet?
It’s quite pleasant to look at. Except that it’s lightness seems to fight the light themed drop-shadows on the items on my desktop. I tried it with openSUSE global theme, and also with Breeze dark and light.
I’ve switched to something darker.
Before you update, save the old backgrounds:
rsync -a /usr/share/wallpapers/openSUSEdefault/contents/images/ ~/old-desktop-backgrounds/
I had to go to backup to get them.
@mchnz here come the obligatory whats that widget question:
Cool system monitor widget, what is that?
I’m going to take a very wild guess.
Conky. Highly configurable in many respects. It’s what we use.
(of course, my answer might be rwong).
It’s several standard KDE System Monitor Sensor widgets, each individually configured and placed.
I think that is nice and gives a clean desktop feel. However, I prefer the former background.
I use the KDE tree background because it’s really cozy. Though I really like this one too.
Compounded with the current Plasma bug which sets the brightness of the monitor to 100, this new wallpaper really hurts my eyes.
The old one was nice but it is hard to think the meaning of it. It has a floor plan layout
with a few large public washroom. I was thinking before that it was the head quarter of the tumbleweed people. ![]()
Maybe you can go with this image, it’s a bit darker than the original. Or you can play wih some variations in gimp.
