NetworkManager under KDE acts very weird.

Hello,
today, my computer refused to connect to wifi from the applet. So I opened the network settings under KDE settings to remove and re-add the network. If I use the applet, input the password and click “Connect” the network just vanishes from the applet. The same happens when I add the network using KDE settings. Anyway I cannot connect to any WiFi, because they just vanish. Wired works normally.
Thanks,
Greenscreener

On a 32bit install the icon also disappears sometimes

Logging off and back in resolves functionality

If wifi drops out, on occasions it does, the only remedy found is to repeat the above

On this install a hard wire connection is so slow, it’s next to useless, < 50 bits/sec.

WiFi speed is about 2 MB/sec.

I used to sometimes see that problem. These days I am mostly using wired connections, so I’m not seeing the issue.

Past experience: when that problem arises, tell the NetworkManager applet to disable WiFi or disable networking. Then wait a minute or two. And then re-enable.

I tried to log out and log in and it didn’t work. Then I disabled WiFi, loggedout and logged back in, enabled WiFi and it works. Strange. Does anyone have any idea why that happens?

normally the network after booting is disabled

due to the selected defaults, it has to be enabled manually,
which requires the root password then the kdewallet password to be entered

if ever the wifi is lost, disable then re-enable, does not lead to a new password request

one thought is that as the firewall is now controlled by pbfilter,
and something does not match up
