Network installation incredibly slow

I am doing a network install of Tumbleweed on a Lenovo W510 with 12 GB of memory and a 240 GB SSD. The network connection is ethernet to Comcast, where I regularly see 25 mb/s or more. Booting from the USB key took 10 or 15 minutes! Once the install finally started, things continued at a glacial pace.

I have installed OpenSuse on other machines in the past, even this one, and have noticed that booting tends to be very slow. But installation wasn’t this bad. I’m allowing this to continue because I’m hoping against hope that things will be wonderful once the system is up.

Any ideas about what could be going on here? Have other people seen this behavior?

Installation hung with a popup saying “Executing %posttrans script 'coreutils -8.31-1.2.x86_64.rpm”. Been sitting like that for 10 minutes with no progress. I abandoned this distribution a couple of years ago, because of the bugs. But at least then I was able to install.

I’m done.

Most likely the bottleneck is the mirror you’ve been redirected to use. Download.opensuse.org is a redirector, not a directly accessible host. Where are you and Comcast located? You could try selecting a specific mirror that would perform more reasonably: https://mirrors.opensuse.org/
