Network install, but NIC needs additional driver

I am attempting to do a network install on a machine that has an Asus motherboard which, unfortunately, comes with a Realtek 8111E chip. Apparently, there is a known problem with the driver for that NIC (e.g., https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=774557 ) which in theory should be solved by upgrading to a newer, patched driver. I have downloaded such a thing from somewhere in the Build Service (not current distro and not Factory, sorry I can’t remember who’s home repo it was) in the form of this RPM: r8168-kmp-default-8.032.00_k3.4.11_2.16-1.3.x86_64.rpm

Now, I had assumed that using the F6 “Additional Drivers” option of the installer would allow me to specify an RPM that would contain whichever additional driver I want to use during installation, but apparently that’s not how it works. My two questions are:

  1. How does the F6 installer option works? I could not find any documentation on that option.

  2. How would I go about installing OpenSUSE 12.2 on this machine? The reason for using a network install is that I do not have media big enough for the 4.7 Gb installer, and cannot obtain it in a reasonable period of time, so I’m constrained to using the network installer, or something that fits in a 4.0 Gb USB stick.

You might be able to re-discover where the package came from with

# zypper info r8168-kmp-default-8.032.00_k3.4.11_2.16-1.3.x86_64.rpm

Although I haven’t used that install option, I wonder if things will “just work” if during the install you just add the private repo where the package came from?

You might also add the special Wireless repo (I don’t have it at my fingertips, if you can’t find it just re-post here).
