Asus Z390-A motherboard, CPU Intel i7-9700K, 32 GB ram, Power supply Corsair 650W[ just replaced 1 month ago], PC built in 2019. OS is openSuse Tumbleweed. On board sound and graphics, WD Black NVME.
PC turns on but does not beep.
No POST
Fans all running.
Lights on M/Board are working.
Power supply replaced a month ago.
Tried a Live USB and a rescue disk but machine won't even boot to UEFI.
I’d appreciate any suggestions as to what might be causing this. [good or bad]
Yeah, if you’re not getting a POST, then it’s not getting far enough to even boot an operating system.
I’d agree with Malcolm that it’s probably the power supply, or possibly just something not plugged in (unless it was working after swapping the power supply out for some period of time - but even then, could be a loose connection inside the case).
If there are cards plugged into the expansion slots, try powering up with them removed to see if that helps isolate the issue.
@conram I did see the Q LED debug lights you mentioned. At 1st the lights would flash and go off when I powered up. As someone suggested I removed the ram [HyperX 16GB x2] and made sure it was clean, free of dust etc. I reseated the ram and when I powered back up the DRAM light stayed on. At this time the PC emitted three beeps. I removed the ram again and reinstalled but the light remains on. At this time the PC emitted one beep. I mention these beeps because up until this time I was hearing no beeps. The power button seems to be a problem now, as it takes three or four pushes and holding the button down before it powers up.
It is the DRAM light [yellow]. Position is third from top. There are 4 lights Boot [yellowgreen], VGA [white], DRAM [yellowamber], CPU [red]. Book says if an error is found the light remains on until the problem is solved. Book subNote: The Q LEDs provide the most probable cause of an error code as a starting point trouble shooting. The actual cause may vary from case to case.
The DRAM light stays lit. Could be a RAM problem but not 100%.
Since you removed and reinstall the ram it could be cause by ram training (not so sure if it is the right term) Wait a while and see if the boot will kick in when the white light appears briefly you’re good but if not it is a problem.
After waiting overnight DRAM light [amber yellow] is not going off. I have tried each ram stick separately and the DRAM light stays on continuously. Not knowing really, but does it seem that both ram sticks would fail at the same time?
The power supply has been tested and is OK.
I have checked and rechecked connections, all seem secure.
Again not knowing really, but could a failed harddrive cause this. I have 2 SSDs [1 SSD for OS and 1 SSD for data storage]and 4 Sata drives for data storage.
