MSI laptop usb-c port not working - KDE

All three USB-A ports are working. I’ve tried two different adapters, USB-C to USB-A. Both linux or msw10 don’t show anything.

The port appears to be loose on a physical connection. Opensuse should have installed drivers. How do tell if hardware is bad vs buggy drivers or other issues? Step by Step. Thanks.

Good indication the hardware is the problem.

If you want to get more detals, start “dmesg --follow-new” on the console and insert a device in the USB-C port.

If no output from dmesg, it is completely broken. If there is output it will probably give a hint on what is wrong.

On a friend’s laptop with windows 10, I plugged in the drive. It worked and the physical connection was tight.

On my laptop -opensuse, plugging it in, nothing happened.
I unplugged twice, on the second time. I received this message and the physical connection

[ 607.962799] BTRFS info (device dm-0): qgroup scan completed (inconsistency flag cleared)

Good to test the device on another computer. If it works there the device itself is not the problem.

On my laptop -opensuse, plugging it in, nothing happened.

The BTRFS message is just some spurious message so my conclusion is that the port on your computer is not working.

This flash drive has a duel port, usb-a and usb-c. The USB-A port connector works.

Conclusion, it was bad port when I brought it or when I removed the back cover twice to add memory and a new ssd. I was really careful and did this on the friend’s laptop too. That the other I tested it on. So, this port was likely bad from the start.

I have three other working ports USB-A ports. The cost to fix it isn’t worth it at this time.

Thanks to Marel for the help.
