The only thing that has changed on my Opensuse 11 system this week has been any of the updates that appear on the bottom right. I would try to uninstall those updates, but I can’t for the life of me figure out how to do that…
Anyway, I have Nvida 8800GT video card and I had video all up and running with no problems but now when I click on a video, mpg or wmv or whatever, it says “Error opening/initializing the selected video_out (-vo) device.” When I go to to the Preferences > Video and change the driver to “gl2 X11 (openGL)” I can play video but anything bigger than 500x500 or so and it gets really, really slow. I currently have, and had working, the “xv X11/Xv” driver in there. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

There’ve been several updates this last week… and at least one kernel
update. Have you rebooted lately?
I have similar problems with my video too. Had started a thread a few days ago, but have not received any replies. But I am on Intel 945 chipset on a laptop. I have tried MPlayer, VLC and Totem and same problem in all. When the screen is small everything is fine, but when I put it to full screen the video is very very slow.
Tried this, this is what I get: I’m not sure what all this means exactly, other than tell me that the video DOES work according to these tests, just very slowly. But other mpgs and wmv don’t work at all, in the mplayer plugin OR in the standalone version…

I don’t have the answer for you, but I have a suggestion for anyone still working on this one…
If you are using KDE, then I don’t know…but if you are using Gnome, you can through Yast downgrade the packages to the last one on your system. Unfortunately, it’s a little tedious
as ROOT open up /var/log/YaST2/y2logRPM and see what the last packages installed are (hint: use page down)
Then from Yast, just select (by clicking) the package in the lower right of the window and if there are any older packages they should let you DOWNGRADE, make sure you’re on the installed packages and not available packages…also works for updates
The app cheese broke when I tried to upgrade gstreamer, hence me figuring this out…hope it helps

Based on what I can determine, it sounds like you’re missing all the Xorg
extensions…
In your xorg.conf file (located in /etc/X11):
Find ‘Section “Module”’
In that section, do you have a line reading thus:
Load “extmod”
Shouldn’t be commented out, probably smack in the middle of many
other ‘Load’ lines. Mine looks like this:
Of course, you’ll need to be root to edit that file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf),
and you’ll need to restart your Xwindows session to reload the new
xorg.conf file. Just log out, then log back in. (sigh, or reboot)
BUT, one thing I have found is that I can play all types of videos in SMplayer, but not in Mplayer (at least not with the right setup…) I can get video to play in Mplayer, but using different-than-default video setup so if the video is larger than 400x400 or so it gets real jerky. BUT I can play video in SMPlayer just fine, full-screen and everything. And the interface is pretty nice too, hehe
So now I just need to be able to tell Media Player Connectivity to play videos in SMPlayer instead of Mplayer… or just tell Firefox to use it. But what is the directory for SMPlayer vs Mplayer? Anyone know?
