mp3 codec.. 400mb!?!?

i am new to suse, but i wanna know why when i anstall codecs-kde.ypm, does it try to install an additional 400mb of software?

thats a hell of a lot when you dont have an unlimited download cap.

and there are entire distro’s which are smaller than that. which play mp3. i know of all the licensing issues, but why so much for just a couple of codecs.
and please dont give me the “linux is only for ultra high speed/capacity internet connections” or “stop whining, its installing necessary stuff” that i got from the ubuntu crowd. (thats why i changed)

Which version of Suse do you run? I have installed:

k3b-codecs (223KB)
libxine1-codecs (1.3MB)
opensuse-codecs-installer (11KB)
w32codec-all (32.8MB)

and everything runs fine. I can listen music, view videos and so on.
