i am new to suse, but i wanna know why when i anstall codecs-kde.ypm, does it try to install an additional 400mb of software?
thats a hell of a lot when you dont have an unlimited download cap.
and there are entire distro’s which are smaller than that. which play mp3. i know of all the licensing issues, but why so much for just a couple of codecs.
and please dont give me the “linux is only for ultra high speed/capacity internet connections” or “stop whining, its installing necessary stuff” that i got from the ubuntu crowd. (thats why i changed)
This is all you need in order for your Linux to run any kind of audio. Belive me. Just register and download it. It’s for free, I guarantee you won’t have any further problem.
… where it has a note for users with no internet (which more or less applies to you … go to an internet cafe, do a one time download, and you are done. … no bandwidth worries. … ) … anyway, I’m sure you can read the rest.
Apolgogies for the tone in my post, but bed side manner is not my strong point, and I confess I found the tone in yours as a new user somewhat distasteful .
WELCOME to openSUSE. As you can see, we do tend to be a festy bunch at times, so you should fit in well. rotfl!
this is the site that was reccomended to me. i tried to run the .ymp and it opened yast2 which attempted to then update repositories and download 400mb.
i am not meaning to sound rude, i just want to find a linux distro which works.
i get 5gb a month downloads. used up about half of that so far this month just trying out various distros. so far suse is the only that looks and works like i think linux should.
i have fixed the mp3 problem, thanks for your help.
now if i can just get my pc to show 1024x768 instead of 800x600, i will be dual booting this distro with xp on both laptops and my girlfriends pc. (she has had it up to here with ubuntu, too cutting edge and not stable enough)
i will maintain my dedication to getting issues resolved though.
those faqs are a big help. i would hate to have a download cap.
i always thought ubuntu was nothing near cutting edge, maybe thats just me. suse does way more for me. hope your experience is as good as mine has been.
