mounting a usb mp3 player

I have a mp3 player which acts as a usb drive as well (Creative Zen). I am unable to mount the device to my linux system. I am able to see the device being added/removed (message appears at the command prompt. No responses with any GUIs, so far) when I am logged in as root. when I list the devices in /dev I see several additions, when the USB device is connected. But none of the newly appearing devices are block devices and hence I am unable to mount those new devices. Can some one advice, how to proceed to read/write from a USB mp3 player’s disc?

The Creative Zen uses the MTP protocol to communicate. Amarok is able to
work with this device, you’ll need to set it up in the ‘Devices’ section of
the settings menus. (MTP Device).

Gnomad2 works well too, fewer features than Amarok, but good.

There are some packages you can install to allow you to use a FUSE filesystem
to access the device from your command line, copy files to/from, etc. Search
YaST for ‘mtp’.

But no, it will not “show up” like a usb flash drive will.

I used Amarok with my Zen. (Yeah, used… traded it to a friend
who uses it much more than I ever did)
