Missing entries in UEFI stopping access to BIOS

My Leap 15 Laptop (an ACER V5-571) used to have two inactive entries when I did a list via efibootmgr one for BIOS setup and the other for the F12 option (I think) to allow boot device selection. Somehow these have been removed and now I am unable to use F2 to access the BIOS screens or F12 to select boot device. I know I can use fwsetup from grub2 command line (secure boot is disabled) but I’d like to get the entries back to allow me to use the F keys on power up. Does anyone know how this might be achieved?

Hi
That doesn’t sound normal… sure there can be some additional nvram entries, but it should not negate the Function keys at boot to get to the system BIOS as this will always be first before anything else.

Maybe the Fn key has been activated to operate the F1…F12 keys, have you tried this to see if can get into the BIOS?

So far nothing works and until these entries got removed it only took an F2 to get into the BIOS, Fn/F2 does not work.

Hi
Weird… I would suggest grab the latest BIOS and reflash/update…

Did you try a USB connected keyboard F2/F12 keys?

I’ll try a USB keyboard but the laptop beeps when I hold down F2 on powering up. As for BIOS update Acer only supply it for installation from Windows.

Hi
Can’t create a USB key to perform the BIOS update?

If you run the following, should get you to the BIOS to see what’s going on and check that the keys are active.

systemctl reboot --firmware-setup

I am aware of both methods to access the BIOS (fwsetup and systemctl) and both work fine. As for the video I had seen it and it did not help.
