Missing emoji in some apps after re-install

I had some hard drive problem, so I wipe everything and did a reinstall of leap 15.1.

I use to be able to display “my” emojis, now the less than common one like the “camera” do not show up anymore in some apps but it works in others:

  • claws-mail: doesn’t display (use to display in my previous install)
  • gvim: doesn’t display (use to display in my previous install)
  • firefox: displays properly: :camera_flash:

Is this some character set or some setting that I missed?

Thank you

@elfroggio:

  1. Did you backup your files (home directory and where ever else) before you “wiped everything and did a reinstall” ?
  2. Have you setup the Emoticons used by the GUI correctly?

In there KDE Plasma, there’s a System Setting related to Icon settings …

oh yes, I did 2 backups of the /home and 1 copy of /etc

How do I set the emoticons? I don’t remember setting the emoticons in the previous install, they were “just there” without me doing anything.

Thanks

For the case of the KDE Plasma GUI, in “System Settings” → “Icons” → the “Emoticons” tab.

  • The default KDE “Breeze” set, may well be not that which you wished for – you may have to choose another emoticons set.

Done, thank you
