Middle mouse button

Ive been using opensuse for a little while now. Recently ran into a problem

My favorite mouse broke, so i went out and got a travel one. It has a very toucht third button under the scroll wheel. Apperently this button is to paste, but every time i scroll, it makes my life miserable, especially when im reading a lengthy page in firefox. I cannot figure out how to program the buttons.

Ive googled, and seen some programs that MIGHT help. but this seems to be something that is built in to the OS. The mouse yast plugin doesnt give you the choice of shuting off the third button, or even reassigning it.

I want the paste functionality GONE from my **** mouse.

I know i must be missing something simple here, somebody help please. Its driving me up the wall.

As the whole copy/paste functionality belongs to your desktop and not to the system, you could look in the mouse configuration of the DE you use (KDE, Gnome, …).

HTH, but I must add that I (using KDE) could not find a solution in the KDE desktop settings > keyboard ad mouse.

In Firefox, at least, you can disable it. Type “about:config”, search for “middlemouse.paste”, and set it to false.

Thanks for the help guys. Ive been busy with finals, so im sorry for the late reply. The tip you gave me Lord_Emsworth did help alot. I still ended up going to best buy and testing just about every mouse I could find till I found one that didnt have a soft middle button.

Just to update everyone… Opensuse 11.3 RC1 does have options for assigning tasks to mouse buttons, including the middle one…

Right click
Select desktop activity settings
Select mouse actions
