Does it launch from the Application menu?
I’ve found it in different places depending on your Window Manager, but generally it’s the first choice in the massively large selection (All the YaST modules will be listed there, too).
If it does launch from the menu,
That should provide a clue.

No, it doesn’t launch either way. It launches on my laptop but not the
desktop. There has to be a missing package but I cannot figure out which
one. Running zypper with --recommends doesn’t install any addition packages.

I haven’t used lxde in quite some time but I remember a similar issue in mate a few years ago (they’re both gtk2)
the solution is simple use a different theme from the error it’s a missing icon resource are you using adwaita or a 3rd party icon set?
if you wore a kde user I’d reccomend lxqt it’s a small Qt based DE I’ve been using it as my 2nd desktop for years and haven’t had a big issue with it
I’d also recommend trying that desktop with a fresh user account just to make sure it’s not a bad config file
I agree, you should install the LXQt Desktop.
LXDE has not had much attention paid to it for a couple years now, all the LXDE developers shifted to LXQt.
LXDE is currently in a supported, but frozen state.
LXQt is where you’ll find all the new features, improvements and fixes

Thanks, I’ll give LXQt a try.
