I have the Logitech USB “premium 350” headset with microphone. The hardware will not operate with openSuSE 11.1 Other references across the Net point to the same problem with no clear solution found. The trick seems to be in recompiling through YaST Hardware Sound Configuration. SuSE sees the hardware. It won’t configure it properly. Can someone help walk me through a solution?
I take it this is a USB headphone?
I don’t have USB headphones nor speakers, but IMHO you could start by looking at this URL for USB headphones: USB headphones - openSUSE It was written with KDE3 in mind, but it may be applicable to KDE4 and Gnome. Speaking of which, … which desktop ARE you using?
Have you tried configuring the headphones using Yast Sound Configuration?
They are USB Headphones. I have both desktops loaded but use KDE 90% of the time. Debian uses a device configure and midi usb option. YaST goes about it differently with fewer explicit (i.e. “multiple choice” options)
I have tried every combination of Yast Sound Configuration including the elimination of the primary driver. I think the trick is to configure the Generic USB headphone option. That’s where I am lost. I can use YaST to choose the Generic Driver but have no clue as to the correct edits to modify the driver instructions.
For some USB headsets have been a stumbling block on linux, maybe its time to break out a pair of the old fashioned non USB headsets?
Yes that is right. Select Generic USB headphone option. after that choose “Quick Configuration”. Then set USB headphone as primary using Yast. Hope this solves your problem.
