Login to KDE fails

Hi folks,

I’ve got the following problem:

after I switching to the radeon driver with sax2 -r -m 0=radeon (the other drivers for my card don’t work, system freezing and so on) I can’t login to KDE. Everytime I typed in my username and password the screen went black and after a few seconds I got the login screen again.

My system: Dual Boot openSuse 11.2 / Vista.
ati Mobility Radeon 3400 Series on a one year old Medion Laptop.

Any suggestions? thx in advance…

I suggest you let the system find out first. So, at the login screen, hit Ctrl-Alt-F1.
Login with your username and password.
do:
su -c ‘rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf’
Enter rootpassword, then do:
su -c ‘init 6’

This would make sure that hardwaredetection would do the job first.

I will try that, but I think that failed already during installation.

btw login as root is possible.

I’ve just created a new user and it works. Seems there was something wrong with the system settings of the other user…

Here it returned functioning by removing the folders cache* in ~/.kde4 and ~/.kde4/share/apps/acitivitymanager

The latter didn’t exist yet in 2009, IIRC… :stuck_out_tongue:

And in this particular case it rather seemed to have been related to the desktop effect settings I’d say, as it happened after a graphics driver change.

But why don’t you just let this poor thread rest in peace? rotfl!
