Login screen of 15.6 does not show usernames

How do I fix this?

Choose another theme.

What is the Display Manager?

SDDM, AFAICS from the Password entry

KDE Plasma. I never picked a theme. Where do I do this?
What is SDDM, AFAICS?
Ah. I get an error loading QML file
org.kde.newstuff is not installed.
How do I install it?

SDDM is “Simple Desktop Display Manager” graphical login program for the X11 and Wayland windowing system. (it’s the login screen you’re having issues with)

AFAICS is an acronym meaning as far as I can see

knewstuff is installed

In Plasma systemsettings. There are backgrounds for SDDM. This can happen whilst a system upgrade or when using incompatible 3rd party themes. Simply try another background/theme. As example the one provided by openSUSE.

Something is screwed up. System settings/Input Devices is missing keyboard and mouse. How do I get them back?

I fixed this by installing more KDE stuff in the packages listing.

You fixed “what” … the “Login screen doesn’t show usernames” issue?? …

… or the “missing keyboard and mouse in Sys Settings”??

… or both??

And what all did you install to fix “it” ?

(asking for clarification)

yeas, sorry. Yes all of them are fixed. I don’t remember what packages I installed alas.
Only issue left is that I cannot use Wayland desktops (they never come up). X11 works fine.

You can start another topic for this if you want to progress it further. Likely down to graphics, but it may also depend on if you’re using the KDE repos (to facilitate a newer Plasma desktop environment).
