Login problem

Hi,

I lockets my system Opensuse 11.3 with ctrl+alt+l and then the system did not accept my password . I tried to login with root password or failsafe , also rescue system . but non of my user and pass did nor work.
Also I tried to login as a single user with type sngle and init=/bin/bash in grub but it was not too. Please help me because i can not use my system and my data.

thanks in advance.

20 minutes after this posting you made another “VPN and access to MS
Sharepoint” does that mean that you can now log in???

if not, you need to give us more information, like:

-when you say “I lockets my system Opensuse 11.3 with ctrl+alt+l” what
does that mean?? i am unfamiliar with using “ctrl+alt+l” for anything,
at all

-did the system work ok for a while and then suddenly not accept log
in? after you did “ctrl+alt+l”

-did you fill your hard disk?

-maybe you scrambled your disk some…maybe you need to boot from a
live cd and run fdisk…or so far i am just guessing–need INFO!

Hi,

The VPN question is for the past but I face with this till now.

locking system with ctrl+alt+l just like screen lock in KDE or windows+d in windows.

It works properly before I lock the screen but suddenly after 20 minutes when I enter the password I faced with login failed messages.

I use LVM for manage the HDD , also I just use a root and swap partition.

TNX for your reply!

what password are you using, yours or roots?

well, i am confused:

  1. you say you locked your desktop and then it wouldn’t take your
password…do you mean it would not accept your password to unlock
    the desktop?

OR

  1. you couldn’t unlock the desktop so you shut down (HOW? exactly how)
and then you can’t boot to fail safe OR boot to normal and then log in
    as either yourself or root…

which?

hi,
I locked the desktop and then it did not take my password for unlocking it , also non of root and mine password and user do nor work now.so after this process I restart the system (HW reset) , system boot in both normal and failsafe mode but in both of situation nn the root and mine user do not accept the password.

Thank you so much

Can you log into a terminal. Press 3 at the boot screen to get non graphic login.

Hi,

This issue resolved , I start the system with enter the below command in Grub:
init=/bin/bash
then system boot as root and I could reset all of the passwords
However I really confuse :
1.I can not understand why this issue happened!!!
2.I don’t have access to any portal or anywhere that need password from my system (gmail or even this forum)!!! but I can login to these portal from any other system!

Do you have a any idea???

i have NO idea except this: i guess your system’s administrator did
something that should not have been done, and in some way corrupted
something, maybe the passwd file… or maybe made some changes in the
systems security settings without understanding the implications of such…

because non of my other passwords did not work from this system for example my gmail or this forum password but I can login with these passwords from another system.
Also I delete my browser cache , but I still face with this issue!

I can not see how the password to your system can interact with the
password for gmail, which does not reside in your system - unless you are
using something to cache passwords.

Or, your keyboard has changed, and so, you type wrong passwords for all
systems.

i agree!

dara-hr, you must have some kind of hardware problem, either a bad
keyboard or a bad keyboard controller…because, i now understand
that you have TWO completely different password systems which are now
not working:

  1. kwallet lists passwords used by (for example) gmail, these forums
    and other such passes…

  2. system passwords like those needed to log into openSUSE as either a
    user or root

because it is so very unlikely that BOTH of those systems became
broken at the same time, for no reason, i must conclude you have a
keyboard problem…

the fix: probably a new keyboard, or keyboard controller…

is yours a laptop?

Not necessarily hardware!

Check that the keyboard mapping hasn’t changed. If the passwords are
good ones with strange characters in while the system for some reason
thinks the keyboard layout is different, the effect would be ‘mistyped’
passwords.

Hi,

Thank you so much, I figure out that my keyboard is broken and its type “z” and “x” instead of “a” and “s”.So I thinks I should fix it first.

See you my friends!!!
