Logi Bolt Receiver, amdgpu, suspend crashes... and a clown

I had just about finished crafting this post before I figured out my stupid mistake, but despite it making me look like an idiot, I’m going to post it to Open Chat anyway as a sort of Public Service Announcement…

So I just built a new PC (I know, in this economy?), everything has been extremely smooth except this issue:

The system fails to suspend properly. The monitor turns off, but the fans and power LED stay on and it becomes completely unresponsive, the only option is to manually cut the power.

Troubleshooting, Duckduckgoing and old forum posts led me to discover that the Logi Bolt Receiver for my keyboard was the culprit. Unplugging it and using an older keyboard with a Logitech Unifying Receiver resolves the issue entirely.

That’s fine, but I had been using this older keyboard for nearly a year (and I can continue to use it) with my old Tumbleweed system without any problem at all. Why does it make my new PC mess the proverbial bed?

Journalctl -b following a suspend without the Logi Bolt Receiver.

Journalctl -b following a suspend with the Logi Bolt Receiver.
(The amdgpu errors loop ad nauseum until the system is powered off manually. If you really want to see the full log, all 9,000+ lines are here.)

Initially, I thought something was wrong with my GPU, but this post led me to discover that the Logi Bolt Receiver is at fault. From what I can gather, amdgpu is involved because the Logi Bolt Receiver is wrenching the system awake while the GPU is transitioning into suspend, which amdgpu does not like.

Apparently the solution should be to add ACTION==“add”, SUBSYSTEM==“usb”, DRIVERS==“usb”, ATTRS{idVendor}==“046d”, ATTRS{idProduct}==“c548”, ATTR{power/wakeup}=“disabled” to udev rules, which I’ve tried, but the issue persists.

What’s going on? I’ve run out of ideas.

So… Have you already figured out where I screwed up?

Maybe nobody else finds it as amusing as I did, but I had copied the udev rules from Fedora Forum with curly quotes. I didn’t notice it until I went to copy and paste into this post and noticed the syntax highlighting looked weird

A little reminder of the importance of using preformatted text tags and being careful when copy-pasting things from the Internet.
