what was it doing in the cache? just sitting there waiting to be
executed…or was it even an executable?

was it something you downloaded, or something packaged with Chrome or
chromium?

did you alert Google? what did they say?

what did Clam name it as?

did you keep a copy of it? would you put is somewhere we can fetch it
and look at its guts, please…

was it a Windows trojan or a Linux trojan?

do you dual boot?

Issue 32751 - chromium - Kaspersky detects Chrome as Trojan …
Issue 6673 - chromium - McAfee doing bad things with web journal …

These issues and many more like them are of concern to Windows users at this point. The anti-virus / anti-trojan software are giving a valid warning as chomium does NOT premit encryption. It also on a Windows based machine allow chromium enabled systems with a few ADD-ONS to see read and write the windows file structure un-inhibited. At this point, a properly locked down Linux box will be unaffected as it’s filestructure is too different. BUT … this can and probably will change. The Google EULA states by installing google chromium you are agreeing to system access through chromium to your system as may be necessary for updates, problem resolution, and marketing. Therefore, if you install and use, and they can access with or without your knowledge, technically anyone would also be able to do the same to you. Thusly, the protection software did it’s intended purpose and warn of the backdoor in the application.

Hi DenverD

Clamav detected the trojan…I just got rid of it. Sorry no details…I got rid of chromium after just one day. And I did not download anything via chromium.

…but I will keep Clamav uptodate and also integrated it into kmail. I think it is now time to watch out for linux viruses !!!

…and thanks for the comment from techwiz03…important to know !!!

cheers Otto

i think that day has not come…
i think there are still no linux virus i’m afraid of which will come
in via kmail, or any other mail client (how will they get ‘installed’
or ‘executed’ unless YOU (or i) do that? and, i don’t plan to click to
install or execute any attachment from anyone, ever–why should i?)…

on the other hand, i do know someone will eventually click on some
attachment named College_Girls_Loving_Linux_Gone_REALLY_Wild.wmv and
trash their home folder…but, that person won’t be me.
