Over the years i have added many words to the acor_en-US.dat file in the user>autocorr folder (my increasingly stiff finger makes it hard to type a sentence without hitting a wrong key) which in OSu is in home/d7/.libreoffice/3-suse/user/acor_en-US.dat, and i have migrated this into new installations of OOo as well as LibreOffice in both Windows and other Linux distros and it worked.
However, after i did it here (using the Superuser File manager) with LibreOffice closed, then when running it then my autocorrect additions do not work, and it will freeze a couple seconds after i open up the Tools>AutoCorrect Options, forcing a hard shutown. Adding a path under Tools>Options> to a backup of my acor_en-US.dat file in home/user/Documents and setting that as the default also does not result in my autocorrect additions working either.
I notice that for some reason the folder the autocorr folder in is named 3-suse rather than just 3, and wonder if that is throwing things off if this is replicated elsewhere. Thanks for any help in advance.

which version of libreoffice do you use? recently, not sure from which
version, the location of these files changed from ~/.libreoffice to
~/.local/libreoffice.
BUT if you copy them into the wrong location (which isn’t used anymore),
nothing should happen.
another BUT: why did you use superuser file manager? moving files around
as root results in those files belonging to root afterwards – means your
normal user can’t open them anymore. that’s probably the reason the
autocorrect thingy crashes. you should have done that with the normal
user’s file manager.
should be easy to fix: as root, change the user & group ownership of these
files, from root:root to <username>:users (or whatever your normal file
ownership is). can be done via the superuser file manager (again), or from
a terminal.
I am using LibreOffice 3.4.5 OOO340m1 (Build:1505), and did a search for other instances of acor_en-US.dat and found none other than in the location listed, plus my own copies.
As for why i used root (which you are right, that was the problem), that is because i am relatively new at this, and am used to Windows (which i never found a real need for more security in over 10 years of overall heavy daily Internet and other use, thank God), and using the FM to “copy to” i could not even see the LibreOffice folder in home/d7, and thought it would not let me (almost everything i do in Linux requires me to sign in, and I cannot even save files to my own Windows hard drives or the NTFS partition on my Linux drive), so i thought i would just use the FMSU. (Later I did edit the Fstab file to try to get full R/W privileges as per a web page instructions the best i understood them, and can save to my Windows drives at least).
After reading your replies to this novice ignoramus i realized my error, and so (as an experiment) I used the regular FM to copy (not “copy to”) the dat file at issue into the home/d7/.libreoffice/3-suse/user/autocorr folder, and now it works fine.
