Does anyone have any idea when we can expect LibreOffice 24.2 to be in the Leap repositories? It has been in the Tumbleweed repo for 3weeks.
@miwuker what is this 24.2 you speak of? Leap Libreoffice is 7.6.2.1, Tumbleweed is 7.6.4.1…
LibreOffice 24.2 is the latest release. If you go to the LibreOffice repository, you will see that 24.2 is the latest.

24.2 is a really strange OBS project. 24.2 is the testing version of LibreOffice. It does not build for Leap 15.5…
Thanks for the information. Perhaps it will make into Leap 15.6.
@miwuker hard to say, AFAIK package freeze has past for Leap 15.6…
LibreOffice offers two versions, “still” and “fresh,” the first one considered “stable” and the second one with the latest goodies… and also the latest bugs and regressions. Right now, 7.6.5 is the latest still and 24.2.0 is the latest fresh. 24.2.0 comes with tons of new features, but also has a few important bugs and regressions that will be fixed on future point releases (all of them already reported). AFAIK, Leap only uses the “still” versions, and only when on a X.Y.z version, z > 3. As a long time user, I think that’s a really wise decision
Again thank you for the information, it is always appreciated.
LibreOffice 24.2.0.3 is the latest version available on Flatpak. Not sure how the different revision numbering translate but it is (a few?) versions newer that the one on the Leap15.5 main repository. Assuming you want to move to Flatpak and you actually need the latest version
Reading the LibreOffice version 24.2 Release Notes, the following points need to be considered:
Platform Compatibility
The minimum requirements for building and running LibreOffice on Linux have been raised from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7/CentOS 7 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8/CentOS 8 (or equivalent). This also means that Qt 5.15 is the minimum supported Qt version for the Qt 5 based “VCL plugins” (qt5/kf5). core commit 02f48a32
- Leap 15.5 KDE Plasma should be OK → Qt-Version: 5.15.8
Feature Removal / Deprecation
Removed FTP protocol support from LibreOffice, following browser vendors and general industry trends. tdf#146386, core commit 4a26dcac (Michael Stahl, allotropia)
- The only issue seems to be that, the OpenSSH FTP (sftp) support isn’t currently available …
For Leap newer versions are available with Experimental repos. For Leap 15.5 LO v. 24.2.0.3 & 7.6.4.1 are available.
For LO 24.2.0.3:
https://software.opensuse.org/package/libreoffice
For 15.5 run the following as root:
zypper addrepo https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/LibreOffice:24.2/15.5/LibreOffice:24.2.repo
zypper refresh
zypper install libreoffice
