I’m trying to configure and operate this printer using openSuSE 10.3 YAST2. YAST was able to find the drivers and PPD file, but I’m not sure YAST put them in the right place, or if the printer is configured correctly: every job that’s sent to the printer is stopped and put in an error queue. Test pages won’t print.
Could someone please help me get this printer up and running?
have you had this printer running in a linux distro before?
I see openprinting lists it as “mainly supported”; OpenPrinting database - All Lexmark Printers but with an asterik saying a user-contributed package that is not in foomatic yet;
the Ubuntu post talked of two separate steps, after untarring the file:
First install the pddk (Printer development kit) then install the CUPS driver.
that makes me thinm there are two things to do: did both steps go okay for you?
my initial post was really offering a driver direct from the lexmark site:
the file that I see on the lexmark site Drivers and Downloads
is CJLZ600LE-CUPS-1.0-1.TAR.gz and it is a 4.1MB file; not sure if that is what you have;
are you happy it is in your default ppd folder? If you open up gimp, and a picture, and then press print, and then setup printer, it shows you the (en passant) the default ppd folder; if you think the right ppd file is there; if no action, I guess folks would suggest deleting any printers in YaST, and starting again to configure: maybe even turning off computer and printer, and turning both on and starting to re-configure: these are only suggestions;
maxiv is right to exhort reading install files: they are not immediately apparent, but I see when one starts to download the lexmark printer, there is a weblink to a very good 49 page pdf file by lexmark: installation guide.
