I have a T14 Gen5 Lenovo laptop with slowroll that I updated with zypper dup this morning. Now the battery is not functioning:
- Unplugging the AC power adapter turns off the laptop immediately.
- The KDE battery widget indicator says the battery is 65%, “Not Charging”, and battery health 98%.
How should I go about troubleshooting this?
If it matters, this is the same laptop that previously had battery issues resolved by factory servicing, but that failure mode was different.
You boot previous kernel and/or previous snapshot and check whether the problem remains.
The problem remains after rebooting with a prior kernel. Removing the AC adapter prior to booting also immediately turns off the laptop.
It sounds more like a hardware issue. You could try removing battery to completely reset state to the clean power on.
Hmm … I vaguely remember that some Lenovo notebooks have hole to reset battery state. Could be worth a check.
The Lenovo does have a battery reset button, but it did not change the laptop behavior; unplugging the power adapter still turns the laptop off.
I have filed a bug. 1244305 – Lenovo laptop battery does not work after slowroll update
I think so too. It might even be a motherboard as the root cause.
