Leap 42.2 Gnome Easy Screen Resolution change?

I have just done a major system upgrade on my desktop and I’m needing to know if there is an easy way of adjusting the screen res
I have a ASRock 880G AMD Motherboard and a ATI Radeon HD5450 graphics card
I installed a new Windows 7 Pro on half my drive and then the new OpenSuse leap 42.2 and Gnome on the other half with dual boot.
All seemed to be fine until I needed to run a new SketchUp on the Windows 7 environment and it called for me to install a better graphics driver which I did after a download from ATI.
When I returned to Leap the Desktop now has large icons and don’t fit on the desktop. The resolution appears to have been changed by the ATI graphics upgrade in the Windows environment - I can only assume that this is due to a chipset firmware change,

Is there an easy way to adjust the screen resolution. It would be lovely if we could just right click the screen and make the adjustment like Windows does, but I don’t think we have the facility in Suse.

I recall in the distant past of my upbringing on Suse Linux (since vers 9) that I had to often fiddle with the X11 settings to get the screen to come out of 800x600 res. Things were much improved in the 10 series, if I recall, and I’ve not needed to make screen res adjustments for a long time.
I realise that the many hundreds of motherboard models and varieties of Linux make some of these quick fixes difficult but it would be really nice if there was an easy way to aviod having to dive into the command line.

Hi
Screen resolution is set via Settings → displays and click on the screen to set resolution. For icons, check in Nautilus, Top right click on the box with 4 black squares and the slider at the top to change icon size. The other place if you have HiDPI is in the Tweak Tool and windows to set scaling…

You should also be using the radeon driver which you can check via;

/sbin/lspci -nnk |grep -A3 VGA

Thanks
Settings/Displays gives me 1280x1024 and Aspect Ration of 5:4. That’s the only option available. At least I know where to find that now.
Great on the icon resizing - I forgot to try that. That has brought me back to normal.

The check on the graphics driver reveals that the Radeon drivers are loaded:-

garth@Garthlinux:~> /sbin/lspci -nnk |grep -A3 VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Cedar [Radeon HD 5000/6000/7350/8350 Series] [1002:68f9]
Subsystem: Hightech Information System Ltd. Device [1787:2291]
    Kernel modules: radeon

I’m happy with the current configuration but, out of interest, is there any other way of choosing other screen resolutions if needed? I
'm guessing the 1280x1024 is the max res for my monitor which is a basic 17" Acer V173 - nothing fancy.

Hi
It would appear that is the max resolution for that monitor, but if you hooked up another, going to the same place would set the resolution if it doesn’t auto set. No need to tweak config files these days

Thanks Malcolm. You’ve been a big help.
