Leap-16.1 how2 install on existing partition to be formatted ext4

That interface is extremely poor:

can’t direct

  • use of existing swap without formatting (formatting will mess up swap use in my other systems). Not only that, but the installer wants to use 2gb free space that I left as free space because “I want it to remain free space”!
    {hint: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S5q4bF6lac}

  • use of existing partition to be formatted ext4. I have no use for btrsf now or in the future but see no way of avoiding it.

@48n66w Hi and welcome to the Forum :smile:

It’s all there… See https://agama-project.github.io/docs/user/guides/storage

I use ext4 :wink:

How to may be obscure, but it’s there. In 16.1pre it’s been less poor than 16.0GA offered. I don’t proceed without directing to a previously prepared EXT4 installation target, making zero partition table changes. It has been successful here several times in both 16.0 and 16.1pre.

I want to install to ext4 partition 16 on my laptop with data-deletion on that partition only and no reformatting even but see no way of doing so. On my desktop there is a working Leap system but that was installed as 16 and I can’t remember how I did it. Installation is to process what a control-panel is to GUI: prime real-estate where nothing can be lossy and if a user has a single question or moment of uncertainty then it’s back to the drawing board. My desktop also has a Slackware, that one I can just dd over to the laptop and boot it.

@48n66w by default it shows swap and / with btrfs. All you do is select and hit the trash can.

Select add in the drop down and use an existing partition I assume /dev/nvme0n1p8 then type in the mount point /boot/efi and then select it. Set to use current.

Select the next partition your wanting, so rinse and repeat for swap and then / then make sure you select custom and set all the other partitions to not modify.

Got it done, don’t remember how. At the time I was of the opinion that it was a matter of wording. I know what devs are up against with 200 cuntries and automated machine translation and all that…

Thanks. Replying just so I can find this thread again at a later date.
