Leap 15.6: no sound + yast sound module hangs

Hi,
within leap 15.5 my sound worked fine up to the new-installation of 15.6. Sound was not longer heard, then. Trying to generate sound, eg. by means of vlc media player +and clicking the kde-volume-symbol I see a line for vlc and the obviously variing volume of the playing sound, but it does not reach the output-socket or the sound amplifier behind. Apparently sound is playing, but no signal reaches the output alive.

Checking my sound-configuration in yast => sound module I see available sound cards, but not configured. Arbitrary of the choice of the first soundcard, yast hangs for hours, without ending the configuration process or giving any hint /error message.

I checked my installation-media [“ok”] and re-installed leap 15.6 => leading to the same problem again.

Several checks + their results:

Help would be appreciated.

Don’t try to use the yast sound utility for configuration - it is deprecated.

Have you tried using pavucontrol to select the desired configuration profile and output sink? You may need to install the package first.

I also note that you have both PipeWire and PulseAudio active concurrently. I recommend installing the ‘pipewire-pulseaudio’ package, which provides a PulseAudio wrapper for clients requiring such support. This will remove native PulseAudio in the process, leaving PipeWire and associated components to manage your sound. See if that makes a difference here.

Thank you for your answer. I did not know that yast sound module is deprecated --it is still part of standard installation.
I followed your suggestions, installed the ‘pipewire-pulseaudio’ package and ‘pipewire-libjack-0_3’ according to https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Pipewire.
Pavucontrol is working normal without any error message, still pretending that sound works. But I don`t hear any sound, yet.

However the output of inxi -Aa has dropped pulseaudio + changed to

Pipewire or wireplumber also do not seem to complain:

Maybe my system has a problem on the alsa-level?

Yeah -'alsamixer ’ solved it: all volumes were preset to zero. :tada:
Poking in the dark did it at last & (I guess) a cleaner sound system pepared to run solely pipewire.
