Latest Tumbleweed upgrades won’t log in to GUI?

After running a “dup” to the current days Tumbleweed snap I get the error in the screenshot. If the session is set to gnome it will boot in to gnome. If I change the sessions to KDE x11 or Wayland the screen goes black then right back to the login screen. Anyone have any ideas on this odd issue? Perhaps just changing the theme that was set for login? Interesting enough, while in Gnome if I click on the KDE System Settings nothing happens.

I’m finding it hard to read that text on your screen image.

It does seem to be saying there’s a theme problem. You could perhaps try changing the display-manager to GDM or lightdm, and see if you can then login to KDE.

Yes, the text is hard to read.

It reads.

The current theme cannot be loaded due to the errors below, please choose another theme.

file///usr/share/sddm/themes/breeze-openSUSE/Main.qml:12:1:plugin cannot be loaded for module “org.kde.plasma.core”. Cannot load library /usr/lib64/qt5/qml/org/kde/plasma/core/

I was thinking it was the default login theme, the openSUSE them. Thought maybe changing the theme to the default KDE theme would work.

I would guess that it is complaining about the SDDM theme, rather than the desktop session them. The settings for that are in “Startup and Shutdown”.

It could possibly due to incompatible packages. Are you using any non-standard repos?

Create a new user account for login.

Next, log out of your account.

Then, log in as the new user.

Any change??

As this is the login screen and thus shown before any user is logged in at all, I doubt this will change anything.

You could try removing the them reference in /etc/sddm.conf.d/kde_settings.conf. Then restart sddm. I don’t know if that works, but if the theme is broken it might.

You can also check /usr/share/sddm/themes to see which themes are available on your system if the above does not work, and change the theme entry to another one you see here.

No, I don’t think I am.

Well, it won’t allow me to login if KDE is set at the session but does if I switch to gnome.

I’m going through the other posts…slowly. As I’m a little slow today. Tested posted for the Covid.

after doing a dup to 20231116 this issue resolved itself.
