Latest Leap 15.5

Good afternoon. I have been running openSuse 15.5 on:
Dell Precision 5530, DellPowerEdge 530XD, Dell PowerEdge 730 XD and A lenovo laptop. After the updates from Wednesday, 2024-Jun-05, None of my openSuse computers are accessing the multiple screens, Actually all of them boot into the command prompt. Can someone please assist. My sons Dell runs Fedora 40 KDE and it work with the multiple screens. The fedora seems to run KDE 6.

I have never done this before, but I get the error ‘only 2 links per post allowed’. How do i get the zypper lr -d response from my ‘konsole’ to you? It is also to big for a screenshot

Being the idiot I am, I have just hit update on the Dell Latitude E6540. SAme problem. Boots into console, when I run startx, it refuses to go to Plasme/KDDE but gives me Gnome. I believe the update had ‘updates’ to the kernel. It could be why 15.6 RC also gives me the same issues?

Therefore another question arises. How do I ‘roll-back’ the update that I just did?

When you are asked for command output always:

  1. include the command prompt & command requested
  2. include the output
  3. include the following command prompt
  4. enclose all of it within PRE tags using the icon above the input window, or between two rows of only the three characters ~~~

#4 preserves the formatting of the original screen output. #1-#3 make clear whether what we are looking at is what was requested or offered.

Thank you very much. Let me try again:

Dell models numbers usually are actually model line numbers, which tell us nothing about the hardware they include. When having trouble with display output, we usually need some information about graphics hardware. A particularly good way to do that is input/output from command inxi -GSaz run from within X. It can be used when X not starting (only a display prompt) is the problem. Inxi just can’t provide as much information that way.

How many displays are each computer connected to? Are multiple computers physically connected to any one display? If yes, is this with multiple displays? Is only one computer at a time doing this, connected to the same group of displays? Some displays object to having multiple displays physically connected at the same time. A dock made for use with a laptop may not work as expected when used with a desktop PC.

Given what you’re describing, it really amounts to multiple questions. It’s probably best to choose one to focus on, get it solved, then move on to another. It’s difficult to imagine multiple computers all exhibiting exactly the same problem, when a mass of others have reported no similar trouble. I updated this 15.5 2 days ago, and it’s working just fine. Do you do some special configuration on each of your computers that you can think might possibly be involved with any graphics issue?

It’s best to either copy directly from Konsole, or if there is a problem doing that, redirect output to a file, and either attach the file, or paste its content:

zypper lr -d > someuniquefilename-filenamedoesnotmatter.txt

Please do not try to substitute an image for copied and pasted output except when capturing a screenshot is the only way possible to get the info, such as boot screen messages.

Please, all zypper commands should be run "as root ".

Sorry about the ‘root’ thing. Here is the one with me as root:

It is

zypper lr -d

I know computers are very inhuman, but computer systems are very bad in interpreting what is not said, or said wrongly. Either use copy/paste, or check and re-check what you are typing. Every character counts.

And then, not your fault, but I guess using lines with ~~~ is not the best idea because I see the lines cut off at the end. Better use ``` (the same key, but without the Shift) or use the </> button from the tool bar of the post editor.

And last, but not least, please always use

su -

and not su . Read the man page.

Thank you. It is not only my Dell servers but also my ‘brand new’ Lenovo and Dell 5530 laptops that are exhibiting this problem. The Servers, 530XD and 730 XD are both connected to their own screens. = (x3) each. The Lenovo and Dell laptops, just mentioned, are still just being setup, so I havent added multiple displays. The Dell Lattitude E6540, there are 2 of them, one I just updated and it stopped working, have docks for the financial people, they each (E6540) connect to one each additional Samsung 27" monitors

In any case, I see you have a lot of extra repositories, special KDE ones. I do not know why you need them, but that could be the source of your problem.

Sorry about the lr thing, I am a bit ‘brain dead’ at the moment. A lot of computers have gone down here and I am trying to restore what I can before Monday.
