Laptop freezes, NVMe I/O errors in dmesg

Hi, every now and then (I’d say a few times in the past 2 months) my laptop freezes, the desktop disappears and I see the dmesg on screen, which shows NVMe I/O errors and other messages about CPU stalls. See for example the attached picture.

Is there anything I can do to find out whether this is a software issue or an indication that my SSD could fail soon?
Thanks!

That looks very bad to me. Try hdparm -t /dev/nvme0n1 several times to see if you get similar dmesg errors. If smartctl -x /dev/nvme0n1 output isn’t useful, check with your nvme vendor’s RMA department. It may tell you to contact your motherboard vendor, to use it’s own checking utility, or to submit an RMA request.

Agreed. I would not trust that NVME ever again, nor even try to fix it. It needs to be replaced, have backups restored etc.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. This is my work laptop so I will ask my IT department to have it fixed or replaced.
