alright my system completely froze up and I had to do a hard boot…well when I went to download a torrent to my external hard drive (media/disc) I get the following message (name of torrent) permission denied. I can download anywhere else except there for some reason. I can even copy and paste to the drive,so the problem seems to be isolated to ktorrent. So what could the problem be?
Have you actually set this location as the default location in the kt settings?

I can’t say I have ever experienced this. Have you tried another torrent client to see if it behaves the same way. Transmission or Deluge are both in Packman.
What format is the drive/partition in question and what size is the file you are trying to download.
If you open Dolphin SU mode and go to /media
right click the folder of the mounted device and then properties
and then permissions
can you set all 3 drop boxes to ‘Can View and Modify Content’

Well I just got home and looked and for some reason I don’t know how but now my external harddrive is no longer /media/disc it’s /media/disc-1 how could this of happened?
I’m not sure about this.
But I can tell you all my external devices have been formatted to have particular Volume Label
They always just mount the same way everytime.
eg: I have external usb HD for storage, say I give it the Volume Label: My_store
It is always mounted in /media/My_store
oh yes it mounts fine and everything just the name got changed somehow anyway to change it back?
what’s happening is the mount creates a default name folder to mount it to and the folder is being left behind so when it mounts again it adds a numerical extension to the name.
I’m not sure of the in’s and out’s of this. Maybe it has to do with not being unmounted correctly before or during shutdown.
If you look in /media you should see the old folder name it was mounted to as well as the new one (I say, should, according to what you have described).
Delete the old folder, then: Try unmounting the current mount from dolphin before a reboot and it should boot to /media/disk

thanks worked great…just one very small question where do I go to set whether or not open programs (like firefox and/or a terminal I had opened on logout) are loaded upon the next login? can’t for the life of me remember where the setting is

Any apps open on a shutdown should re-open as they were, to the extent possible.
