I’m running openSuse 12.1 on my mom’s desktop. After some recent updates kpatience won’t open. The shortcuts and icons are still in the menus, and you can click on them, but it just gives the bouncing ball and then nothing. Program (at least the graphic portion) never shows. I have uninstalled/reinstalled using YAST, version Version 4.8.5
Ideas? My mom calls me at least once a week to tell me her computer runs just fine, except she can’t play solitaire.
I like the diversity of questions in this forum and in the world. lol!
Well, the first thing to try it to type “kpat” in a terminal. I just tried and got it start under 12.1 . It’s not the same version though:
$ kpat --version
Qt: 4.7.4
KDE Development Platform: 4.7.2 (4.7.2) "release 5"
KPatience: 3.6

If you have in any way remote access to her machine run the command kpat
in a terminal and see if it gives a useful error message. Other than
that I have no idea where to start to find the problem.
